From the
Director’s
Desk
As summer winds down,
things certainly don’t slow
down here at AAPLD. We
loved seeing so many of
you “Level Up” through our
Summer Reading program - it
was one of our most successful
yet! If you completed the
challenge, we hope you picked up your glow-in-the-dark
t-shirt and enjoyed the exciting 昀椀nale celebrations.
Your enthusiasm extends to many aspects of our library
community. We’d like to extend our sincere thanks for
supporting the Friends of the Algonquin Area Public Library
through their Dine & Share events. Our 昀椀rst e昀昀orts were a
great success, and we’re looking forward to seeing you at the
upcoming fundraisers at Red Robin in August and Culver’s
of Lake in the Hills in September. Your participation directly
supports library programs and services, and we’re so grateful
for it.
September also marks National Library Card Sign-Up Month,
with the theme One Card, Endless Possibilities. It’s the perfect
time to discover all the incredible things your library card
can unlock. You can enjoy the typical things libraries have to
o昀昀er—books, movies, and digital content—but there is so much
more! Take a look at the new Library of Things display at the
Harnish Main for non-traditional items, and keep an eye out
at the Eastgate Branch for an expanded collection of themed
kits for kids. Not sure what else the library has to o昀昀er? Just
ask! Our sta昀昀 is always happy to share ideas and opportunities,
some of which you may not even know are possible.
Let’s Write the Next Chapter Together
We’re preparing a new Strategic Plan, and your
voice plays a vital role in guiding the direction
of the library over the next several years. The
brief survey takes just a few minutes to complete,
but your input can make a lasting impact, from
the services we o昀昀er to the programs you value most. In the
past, community feedback has led to exciting changes, and
we’re eager to hear what matters most to you now. Use the link
(bit.ly/aapld-survey) or QR code to participate online, or stop by
the library for a paper copy. However you choose to share, we
truly value your insight and thank you for helping shape what
comes next.
Library Card Signup Month:
One Card, Endless Possibilities
A library card is your all-access pass to so much
more than books. With it, you can stream movies,
learn a new language, borrow musical instruments,
use tech and tools in our Makerspace, or borrow
equipment for your next big project. Dive into
free programs for all ages, including storytimes,
arts and crafts, workshops, musical acts, and
more. And when you need that extra bit of help,
our sta昀昀 are the human version of Google and
AI, ready to track down answers (accurate ones),
recommend your next great read, or guide you
through any challenge. Don’t have a card yet? Sign
up this September or anytime and discover all the
possibilities waiting for you at AAPLD!
As the school year begins, we’d like to wish all students,
educators, and families a fantastic year ahead. Whether you
need homework help, a quiet place to study, or a break with a
good book, we’re here to support you.
Lastly, at above right, you’ll 昀椀nd a link to a brief community
survey. We’re preparing a new Strategic Plan to guide the
future of the library, and your input is essential. You can
complete the survey online using the link or QR code, or stop
in and 昀椀ll out a paper copy. We invite you to re昀氀ect on how
you use the library, recognize our successes, and help us 昀椀nd
new opportunities for service and connection. However you
choose to participate, we truly value your voice.
Thank you for being part of our library community.
